Apple's Mac : Now Prone to Malware

If you believe that Mac is completely free of viruses and malware then you should change your perception quickly because reportedly there are claims that around 600,000 Macs have been infected and compromised by a Trojan Horse. Actually this Flashback Trojan Horse was observed in August of last year. This malware imitate as a flash player update and but when executed it exploits Java to infect the system and make it part of a Mac botnet.

Apple’s Efforts to curb the Flashback Trojan Horse

Apple has said on their website :

In addition to the java vulnerability, the Flashback Malware relies on the computer server hosted by the malware author to perform many of its critical functions. Apple is working with ISPs worldwide to disable this command or control network.

However, Apple has started the process of developing such a tool that will detect and remove this Flashback Trojan Horse from the infected Macs. It is not clear yet when this removal tool will be available. The company has suggested its Mac OS X v 10.5 users to disable the Java in their web browsers.
