At the launch event of Stellar 520 and Stellar 526, the home grown phone vendor Spice revealed that the company will launch its first Android One smartphone as well as $25 Firefox OS smartphone before Diwali in the Indian market this year.
It’s worth noting that, earlier this year the company along with Intex had tied-up with Mozilla Corp. to launch Firefox OS powered smartphones, which are said to be cost around $25 (approx [rs]1,500). Spice is also one of the company who has partnered with Google to deliver $100 Android One powered smartphone in India. The other companies are Micromax and Karbonn, but they’re still silent on the launch of similar devices.
“We will have the handsets in before Diwali. These phones are designed for driving connectivity at affordable prices. We were chosen for our innovation, we are among the chosen few to work with these global giants to bring these devices to India,” Spice Retail CEO Devices T M Ramakrishnan told PTI on the sidelines of the Stellar 526 and 520 launch in New Delhi.
The specifications of both devices are still under the wraps, but considering the alleged prices, we’re hoping that Spice will pack dual-core MediaTek processor, dual-SIM support, 512MB RAM, WVGA display, 4GB on-board storage and usual connectivity support in its first Android One smartphone.
