After global brands like Nokia, Huawei and Samsung, India’s popular handset companies Karbonn and Lava is also planning to launch affordable budget Windows-based smartphones in the Indian markets in coming months.
Talking with PTI, Karbonn’s Managing Director Pradeep Jain revealed that the company will launch the Windows powered devices by the end of May or starting June in the price-range of 6,000-12,000.
On the other hand, Lava International CEO and MD Hari Om Rai has revealed that a series of Windows-based phones will be launched under the Lava brand by the end of July. According to him, Lava’s Windows phones will be priced in the range of 6,500-8,500. The complete specifications of these upcoming budget Windows-based devices are unknown, but Rai has added that these would pack Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processors and feature the Windows 8 platform.
In addition to Karbonn and Lava, XOLO is also looking forward to launch Windows powered smartphones in coming days. The exact launch schedules are however unknown, but company will likely held the launch events in coming quarter. With the launch of Windows devices, XOLO has planned to reach a desired 15 percent share of the smartphone market by the end of 2014.
Last month, at the Mobile World Congress Microsoft had announced that it would be working with nine new Windows phone partners, including Foxconn, Gionee, JSR, Karbonn, Lava, Lenovo, LG, Longcheer and ZTE.
HTC, Huawei, Nokia and Samsung are already making Windows-based devices, but it’s Nokia which is completely dominating the Windows smartphone market with its Lumia range of smartphones.
