A report published in Business Standard claims that Reliance Jio is planning to offer 4G service sometime in Q3 (July-September) this year starting Delhi and Mumbai circles followed by Southern states. According to the report, the telco is currently testing a couple of devices for Samsung and ZTE for use of its 4G services in the country. In the trials done in Delhi, Mumbai and Jamnagar, the telco showcased attaining a furious speed of 49 megabit per second, almost 10-12 times more than 3G network speed.
“At a speed of 49 mbps an user can download a full movie, which is generally of 600 megabyte size, in about 2 minutes. The average top speed of 3G network is pegged at 4 mbps. The company has prepared its network architecture plan under which it will provide booster antenna kind of device. This antenna will receive signal from mobile tower and a cable from this antenna connect a set-top-box or a modem kind of device inside home that will create wifi network for telecom service inside home,” SB report added.
Reliance Jio, which also won spectrum in 1800MHz band in 14 circles in the recently held 2G auction, is likely to offer voice-services as well but probably a few months after the 4G launch.
To remind you, Airtel is the only telecom operator, which is currently offering 4G LTE services, in India. It recently launched its 4G on smartphones service in Bangalore using circuit switch fallback technology.
