As we know that YouTube is a great source or let’s say ocean of information and entertainment. It has some amazing and rare video tutorials which could not be found anywhere else. But the dark side of YouTube is that it has also some objectionable, adult and violent videos which make it improper for children and you would definitely like to prevent those videos from your kids. Isn’t it? Although your kids may be too young for reading or writing but they can still access and easily operate the YouTube site (using image thumbnails) without any help.

As far as videos for children are concerned, YouTube contains a lot of child friendly videos too. Whether you are looking for cartoons, videos of nursery rhymes or animated movies to keep your kids entertained, YouTube contains all. There are almost more than 65,000 “Mickey Mouse” and over 56,000 “Tom and Jerry” videos in YouTube.

How to Make Setting to Prevent?

Certainly the best way to prevent your children from the objectionable and adult videos is to hide those videos from the YouTube website itself. In order to do this, Google has provided a new security filter in YouTube, that when turned on, will automatically hide objectionable videos from the site. To activate the safety mode, just go to YouTube, scroll to the bottom left and toggle the link that says “Safety: Off”.

It will now, not only block videos that contain adult content but clips that may have graphical images of violence will also be kept out of view. Here one thing should be remembered and that is it’s a temporary setting and it gets reset to default when you restart your browser again.

But you can make this setting permanent too. To make it permanent, all you have to do is, to log-in to YouTube with your Google Account and choose “Save and lock Safety Mode on this browser” instead of “Save”.

However, this safe mode filtering feature is not completely full-proof because YouTube relies on the “crowd sourcing” model to determine age-restricted content. If the community doesn’t flag a video, the clip will bypass the Safety mode filter as well.

The Perfect and Full-Proof Way

In my opinion the super and perhaps the full-proof way is to manually create a playlist on YouTube containing only videos that you want your kids to watch and then embed this playlist on another webpage. This will automatically hide all the other YouTube stuff from your children. 😆 😆
