Datawind, the company known for supplying Aakash tablet in India, has launched its first smartphones in the form of PocketSurfer 5 and PocketSurfer 3G5 in the country. The phones are priced at INR Rs.4,999 and INR Rs.6,499 respectively, and will be available shortly in the country.

Safely betting on the large-screen dual-SIM budget smartphone craze, both Datawind PocketSurfer phones boast 5-inch displays, dual-SIM support and run on Android 4.0 ICS platform and include 1GHz single core Cortex A9 processor and 1.2GHz dual-core Cortex A7 processor respectively.

Announcing the launch, Suneet Singh Tuli,Datawind CEO said,” Intended to again create benchmarks in the smart phone category, DataWind’s new products break the affordability barriers of smartphones and bandwidth constraints of cellular networks to deliver calling facility and internet access to anybody who can afford a simple mobile phone.”
