Several reports originating from South Korea suggest that Samsung is looking forward to launch a flagship smartphone having 20MP camera next year. According to the ETnews, the alleged phone will be launched in the second quarter of 2014, and the camera in the phone will boast Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) technology.
The Advanced Development Team of Samsung’s Wireless Business Division is working on this camera module, says the report. The company is focussing on high megapixel count as it has been unable to procure sufficient parts to make cameras with optical image stabilization (OIS). The world’s biggest smartphone maker had planned to introduce OIS with the Galaxy Note 3, but had to abandon the plan due to low supplies.
It will be the first smartphone from Samsung which will boast a camera with such a high megapixel count. However Sony and Nokia have already retailing Xperia Z1 and Lumia 1020 with 20.7MP and 41MP camera respectively.
The company is also reportedly set to launch two new Galaxy range devices–Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Grand Lite at the MWC 2014 scheduled to be held in February. These smartphones are said to be be stripped down versions of the two popular models and will hit the markets in February-March next year.
