Micromax, the prominent handset maker in India, has its sight set to enter the European markets with its smartphones by the end of this year. In addition to India, the company has been currently functioning in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, and with the launch of its products in European countries, the company is looking forward to be a global smartphone manufacturer like Samsung, HTC , Sony, Nokia etc.

According to the report of The Hindu Business Line, the company will first launch its devices in Russia and Romania where it has already set up offices with initial employees coming from rival multinational phone companies.

Talking with the daily, Rahul Sharma, Co-Founder, Micromax Informatics Ltd, said:

Our end goal is to go global as an Indian hardware brand. I do not want to be seen as an Indian company anymore. We have tested waters in markets such as Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and we are among the top three phone brands in both the markets.

We are launching in Russia in December and if I am able to crack Russia, we will also able to capture the whole (of) Europe. We have a couple of products especially for that market, and Google doesn’t work there so we have tied up with Yandex on the application level.

The company is betting high to promote its smartphones on international level. It has just roped Hollywood star Hugh Jackman as its brand ambassador for Canvas-series smartphones. With Jackman, the company now has a face, who is recognisable worldwide as it attempts to become a global smartphone player.
