There has been a battle for smartphone dominance between Samsung and Apple for long time, but Apple seems to be still dependent on Samsung for its iPhone’s processor. According to the report, Samsung is producing and delivering the A7 processor, which is found included in iPhone 5S smartphones, to Apple. Samsung had also manufactured the A6 processor for Apple last year.
Apple’s dependence on Samsung for its iOS hardware chips seems a little bit surprising as there were rumours suggesting that Apple would make a partnership deal with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) for its iPhone 5S chipset earlier this year.
Some reports even suggested that the TSMC will start manufacturing A7 chip for Apple in 2014 with an aim to lower the Apple orders at Samsung’s chip fab facility in Austin. But considering the recent report, TSMC seems not to be ready to produce the A7 chipset for Apple at this point. May be TSMC take the charges of manufacturing Apple A7 processor from Samsung later this year.
