LG Display, the world’s largest LCD panel maker, has today introduced the world’s slimmest LCD panel which is meant to be used in smartphones. This 5.2-inch display panel is said to measure 2.2mm thick with 2.3mm bezel. According to the company, the latest full HD panel is both slimmest and narrowest among existing full-HD LCD panels designed for mobile devices. Additionally, LG says the panel will make devices easier to grip as well as it’s lighter in weight.
As LG is going to introduce flagship Optimus G2 with 5.2-inch full HD display in coming months, we’ll not be surprised if we find LG Display’s new panel in the smartphone. However it’s just speculation at the moment and nothing has been confirmed by the company.
Highlighting the features of its new display panel, this is what LG has noted in a press release:
Only 2.2mm thin with a 2.3mm bezel, LG Display’s new panel is both slimmest and narrowest among existing Full HD LCD panels designed for mobile devices. This world’s slimmest Full HD LCD panel will provide larger visible display space on smartphones, critical as mobile devices are used for multimedia viewing more than ever before.
According to Dr. Byeong-Koo Kim, Vice President and Head of LG Display’s IT and Mobile Development Group, “Today’s introduction of the world’s slimmest Full HD LCD panel represents an exciting advancement for the high-end smartphone segment, and is possible due to our world-class expertise in IPS and touch technologies.”
LG Display’s this new panel has been developed using latest and more advanced One-Glass-Solution (OGS) technology and at the same time dual Flexible Printed Circuits, which are superior to a single circuit, have been inserted between the panel and touch film, reducing the number of lines on the panel by more than 30 percent.
