We had heard Samsung saying earlier that it will launch Tizen powered high-end smartphone later this year, and now looks like the Samsung’s upcoming smartphone powered with Tizen, the HTML 5 based open-source OS, is almost confirmed. Spotted listed in Samsung’s UAProf website, the Tizen powered smartphone is codenamed Redwood GT-I8805 and expected to be announced in July this year.
In terms of specifications, Redwood GT-I8805 is said to be a high-end smartphone sporting LTE network and 720p display with unknown size. It eventually features Cortex-A9 SoC, rather than the more robust A15 processor line found in more recent high-end smartphones.
Along with Redwood GT-I8805, Samsung is also rumored to be engaged with other Tizen device codenamed GT-I8800 Melius, but nothing has been made clear about the device yet.
