LG has announced a water-proof version of popular Optimus G smartphone in Taiwan toady. Dubbed as LG Optimus GJ, the smartphone can withstand in meter deep water up to 30 minutes. Expected to compete with Sony Xperia Z, it will hit the store next month in Taiwan with NT$17,990 (US$600) of price tag.
Specwise the LG Optimus GJ comes with the same specification as Optimus G has. Similar to Optimus G it has 4.7 inch IPS HD display along with 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, MicroSD card slot, 13MP rear camera, and 2,280 mAh battery.
As of now, there is no official word on whether the phone will be released in other markets or not.
In the related news, the company is also going to launch the successor of Optimus G called Optimus G2 in August this year. The LG Optimus G2 is rumoured to feature 5.2-inch 1080p display, latest Android 4.2, 1.9/ 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor 2GB of RAM, 13MP rear camera and LTE-A support.
LG clearly seems to be capitalizing on the Optimus G brand value, which has been the company’s most successful Android smartphone. It has already launched similar-branded variants of the phone including Optimus GK and Optimus G Pro.
