AMD has introduced a new mobile graphic processor unit under its Radeon HD 8000M series. Dubbed as Radeon HD 8970M it’s claimed to be the world’s highest-performing mobile graphics processor available in the market today.
Like its predecessors, Radeon HD 8970M is also based on GCN architecture but features 1280 stream processors, 80 texture units, 32 render back ends and 256-bit memory bus unlikely. The chip is clocked at a speed of 850MHz by default, but can automatically overclock itself to 900MHz if thermals allow.
Apart from these specs, the GPU also supports several technologies including AMD’s Enduro technology, which allows GPU to optimize battery life and DirectX 11.1 support for enhanced gaming experience.
Announcing the launch, Matt Skynner, corporate vice president and general manager of graphics business unit at AMD said:
Today’s gaming notebooks need a graphics card that is fast, powerful and energy-efficient. The AMD Radeon HD 8970M GPU is the perfect combination of technologies, blending performance, immersive features and an extensive battery life that delivers an unrivaled gaming experience, even on the go.
As per the company, in the performance test the GPU is found offering consistent performance advantage over its arch-rival GeForce GTX 680M in both gaming and non-gaming applications.
