LONDON : The mobile security service for iOS and Android portable devices like smartphones and tablets, Lookout Mobile Security has unearthed a malicious program called BadNews that robs users money by sending premium rate text messages. The firm said the malware intentionally remains ineffective for weeks to avoid antivirus detection, then it suddenly becomes active to rob money of users by sending text messages at inflated rates.
Till now, 32 different apps infected with BadNews have been spotted on Google Play online store. According to BBC, BadNews has affected users in Belarus, Russia, Ukraine including several countries of eastern Europe.
The 32 infected apps were made available via 4 different developer accounts at Google Play. The infected apps have been removed from Google Play and those 4 developer accounts have been suspended.
Most of those infected apps are Russian and they installed AlphaSMS in Android devices to rob users’ money in Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Armenia and Kazakhstan.
