It appears that now Samsung will consume some more time to announce its first flexible display featured smartphone, which was showcased at CES this year. Samsung Display, which is developing the flexible display, is reportedly delayed the display after facing a problem regarding encapsulation technology developed by US company Vitex System.
The ETnews reports that the company is now looking and reviewing several other encapsulation technology since the adoption of Vitex System’s encapsulation technology excessively lengthens the manufacturing time. Since OLEDs are vulnerable to moisture and oxygen, encapsulation processes are crucial to the commercialization of flexible displays.
Samsung Display, in a press release has noted:
As we have accumulated expertise in this field, progress is being made in substrates as well as encapsulation technology. We have developed a new technology than can shorten the encapsulation process to less than 2 minutes by using the Vitex System-developed encapsulation technology.
Samsung flexible display smartphone may be delayed, but we will soon see LG launching the similar kind of smartphone in coming days as the company has claimed to come faster with flexible smartphone devices than Samsung.
