Kumar macMillan, one of the enginner involved in the project has mentioned the issues and difficulties related to existing web payment system. According to him, consumers today are not confident and comfortable sharing their credentials at any random payment service. Also, the entire process of purchasing an app or digital media turns cumbersome when the user has to enter credit/debit card details over a small mobile screen.

He revealed that, to enable web payment in Firefox OS, the company will come forward with navigator.mozPay(), a JavaScript API, in Firefox OS so that web apps can accept payments through various online payment merchants backed by a secure interface.

In the related post, MacMillian stated that payments should be a first class feature of the web. With the new payment feature implementation Firefox OS aims to make consumers more confident about making payment, ensuring that the payment credentials are handled securely and guarantee payments to merchants after the goods are delivered.

Firefox OS is working to cover a large number of merchants and payment service providers for making it easy to purchase digital goods and shop online.
