The last Wednesday (January 30, 2013) witnessed the opening of the world’s first and only Barbie-Themed Restaurant at Zhongxiao Road, Taipei, Taiwan. The capital, Taipei is considered to be one of the most active shopping district of Taiwan.
Taiwanese restaurant company Sinlaku with the license of U.S. toymaker Mattel owns the restaurant. The unique restaurant cafe will attracts worldwide fans of the legendary doll. The restaurant cafe will be packed with all the girly features of Barbie. Primary colors of the restaurant theme are pink and magenta. The interior decoration has cost around USD $1.7 Million, as per CNN reports.
Tables and chairs of the restaurant are shaped like high heels. Waitresses are made to wear tutus and tiaras while waiters are made to resemble Ken (Barbie’s fictional boyfriend). Sinlaku is planning similar Barbie restaurants in Taichung (Central Taiwan) and Shanghai (China). Sinlaku already runs a restaurant cafe in Taipei, based on Hello Kitty theme which was inaugurated 5 years ago.
Barbie Doll had gained a fashion cult status after its launch on March 9, 1959 by the American toy-company Mattel, Inc.
