CHENNAI: Cyclone Nilam has spared Chennai and moved southwards to make landfall at Mahabalipuram on Wednesday evening, sharply around 6 PM. The Cyclonic Storm Nilam has created much chaos as it entered South India. The cyclonic storm was originated from low pressure areas of Bay of Bengal on October 28, 2012 and a weak depression was at first spotted in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka.
Mahabalipuram caught chaotic stance at the news of possibility of cyclone flashed. More than 3000 people were vacated all around Mahabalipuram. Cyclone shelters had been set up in Nagapattinam and Cuddalore districts. Mahabalipuram is facing electricity outages. About 90 trees and some huts were reportedly devastated in the cyclone. The wind speed reached at a peak of 85 KMPH. As per the reports of The Hindu, at least four people were reportedly dead in different parts of Tamil Nadu.
