Akai has launched an innovative digital media device named Akai SmartBox in India. The Akai Smart Box is similar to Apple TV which allows users to access content like videos, games and websites using Wi-Fi and broadband connection on television sets. Priced 6,590, the SmartBox has been powered by Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating software and comes integrated with a faster 1.25-GHz processor along with a wireless mouse for easy navigation.
It also includes 4 GB internal media storage which can be expanded up to 32 GB via SD card. In terms of connectivity options, the SmartBox features built-in Wi-Fi, Ethernet port, AV port, HDMI port, 4 USB port. Apart from 2G network, it also support 3G network via 3G USB dongle and come preloaded with Google Talk, Skype and Yahoo, social networking sites, YouTube video support, preloaded games, access to Android apps via Google Play store and DLNA support.
The Akai SmartBox is said to be compatible with all kinds of TVs. It doesn’t matter whether it is CRT, LCD, LED or Plasma. Moreover it can also be used as a router to connect other devices like tablet PCs and laptops to the Internet.
