If you are bored with the normal fonts pre-installed in your operating system, then Google’s Web Fonts collection might help you. Google Web Fonts hosts several fonts that are fresh, stylish and you probably don’t have. What’s more – these are open source fonts available to download absolutely free.

There are several other websites that offer free fonts to download, but you’ll see that most of the fonts on these websites are already pre-installed in your computer.

Process to Download and Install Google Web Fonts

STEP 1 :
Open Google Web Fonts website.

STEP 2 :
See the sidebar on left side. Choose the filters on the left side for the choice of the fonts according to your needs.

By default the filter is set to All categories. However, you can change this by clicking on it and choosing from drop-down menu one or more options from :

  • Serif
  • Sans-Serif
  • Display
  • Handwriting

You can also choose from drop-down menu, the script that the fonts will support. By default it is Latin. Scripts available to choose from are :

  • Cyrillic
  • Cyrillic Extended
  • Greek
  • Greek Extended
  • Khmer
  • Latin
  • Latin Extended
  • Vietnamese

As soon as you change the filters, the fonts will automatically appear in the main body of the website according to the chosen filters.

STEP 3 :
Scroll down to choose the required fonts. Click Add to Collection in each font of your choice. After you have added all the fonts of your choice in the collection, to download them all in one go – click Download your Collection as appearing on the top right corner of the website.

This will begin download process of a zipped file.

STEP 4 :
After the download finishes, locate the zipped file (with .zip file extension) and extract it to some convenient location.

STEP 5 :
To install the fonts in your computer, locate the font files (with .ttf file extension) and copy the font files to your system’s fonts folder.

In Windows to open fonts folder go to – Control Panel \ Fonts (or C:\WINDOWS\Fonts )


Once installed, you can use these fonts freely in any of your projects. The Google Web Fonts are optimized for websites and they take very little memory space and very little loading time.
