Finally the wait is over. On 18th August, in a glittering ceremony held in Dongsheng Fitness Center Stadium in Beijing, Miss China Yu Wenxia has been declared as the Miss World 2012. Ivian Sarcos, the last year’s Miss World from Venezuela handed over this prestigious crown to Yu Wenxia. This is 2nd time in the history Miss China has won the Miss World title. Earlier to this Zhang Zilin in 2007 was crowned the tittle. This year a total of 116 contestants from all over the world competed for the crown and took to the stage during the final in a variety of stunning gowns.

When asked why she should be crowned, Yu Wenxia, a music student and willing to become a music teacher said:

When I was young I felt very lucky because so many people helped me, and I hope in the future I can help more children to feel lucky.

The first runner-up is Sophie Elizabeth Moulds of Wales and the second runner-up is Jessica Michelle Kahawaty of Australia. India’s contender Vanya Mishra finished the Miss World Peagant with 7th position.

Her stunning dance to the track “Dil cheez kya hai” from the 1981 film Umrao Jaan in the semi-finals gave her a place among the top seven finalists. Initally Mishra was being touted as one of the probable winners and was expected to bring back the title home after a gap of more than a decade but unfortunately failed to deserved the title.
