Lenovo has announced a tablet named Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2- a new tablet running Windows 8 operating system. This is the company’s first tablet which is specifically designed for Windows 8 OS and will be available in the market as soon as Windows 8 arrives in October.
Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 features a 10.1 inch HD display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels and equipped with upcoming Intel Atom Processor-based mobile chipset and Windows 8 Pro. The device is expected to offer a great competition to Microsoft Surface-anther Windows 8 tablet announced by Microsof, as it’s quite thinner and lighter than that. Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 weighs less than 600 grams and is just 9.8 mm thin.
To make Windows 8 experience better, the tablet has been designed to support multiple input methods like multi-finger touch and an optional digitiser and pen. The optional ThinkPad Tablet 2 keyboard and dock can be paired with the tablet for more PC-like computing in the office. Moreover the tablet also includes 8 MP rear camera, 2 MP front facing camera for video conferencing, a full-size USB port which can be used to attach monitors and printers, a fingerprint scanner for security and a stylus for capturing signatures and completing forms.
The Lenovo has designed this tablet to target enterprise market which was primary aim of Microsoft with Windows 8 tablet. One thing that could set it apart from the Surface is the ThinkPad Tablet 2 will be able to run 3G and LTE, which has not been announced for the Microsoft-developed tablet. The ThinkPad Tablet 2 will come in Wi-Fi, 3G and AT&T LTE models. However the pricing of the device is not clear yet.
