Now there wouldn’t need to have costly iPhone and smartphone or internet connection in order to send and receive an email to and from your friends and relatives in coming future because internet giant Google has introduced Gmail SMS that allows users to send emails via SMS. Now Gmail users with any simple multimedia handset can send and receive emails through SMS. However Indian users will have to wait for some time because this service will currently be available in some African countries like Ghana, Nigeria and Kenya only but is expected to be launched in other regions of the world soon. With this step Google is trying to reach larger audience in countries which do not have much mobile internet penetration.

Gmail SMS : How it works?

If your friends send emails to you the Gmail SMS automatically converts your emails as SMS text messages and forwards to your phone and you can respond by replying directly to the SMS. After receiving the SMS you can reply simply by pressing “Reply” button and typing texts in the message body just like SMS. Users can create new mails via SMS and send the same to any email address. Moreover users can also control the emails through commands like More, Pause and Resume. In order to get started with this service users will need to have to activate this service by modifying the settings in their Gmail accounts and registering their phone numbers with Google.
