ESET NOD32 Antivirus 5 and ESET Smart Security 5 offer various improved features, including ESET Live Grid, cloud-based reputation and protection technology, new Removable Media Control, with more granular control of external devices, Parental Control (only in ESET Smart Security 5), Advanced HIPS (Host-based Intrusion Prevention System) and Gamer Mode that switches to silent mode and disables pop ups to conserve system resources and enhance the gaming experience. New feature Advanced Host Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS) implemented in 5th generation of ESET products allows tech savvy users to customize the behavior of the whole system and its each part. User can define rules for system registry, processes, applications and files. The tool can be used to block unauthorized changes to programs. Removable Media Control is another new tool aimed to secure users from viruses and malware that spread though removable media affecting computers without the need for internet access. This tool automatically prompts the user to scan the content of all flash drives (USB, SD), firewire, CDs and DVDs, so that specific threats can be blocked from trying to get through to the system through the media devices. Users can block/allow removable media, based on the type of media, manufacturer, size and other attributes.
Parental Control feature build into ESET Smart Security 5 allows blocking websites with potentially offensive material. In addition, parents can prohibit access to more than 20 pre-defined website categories. The user can set up a “role” for each user account, each with its own set of default website categories that are allowed or disabled during browsing.
On the launching occasion Pankaj Jain, Director, ESS Distribution (Exclusive Distributor for ESET products in India) said :
There has been revolutionary change in Host-based Intrusion Prevention System what used to be called ThreatSense.Net – ESET’s cloud-based malware collection system that utilizes data from ESET solutions users worldwide. The technology is now named ESET Live Grid and offers optimization of scanning based on the white-listing of safe files. Another scanning method used in fifth version is cloud-based reputation which allows to determine whether a particular object is secure or not.
Removable Media Control feature will be very useful for Indian users who are most vulnerable for worms and viruses spreading through Internet and removable media, mostly USB flash drives, as ESET latest cyber threat reports show.
Pavel Luka, Chief Technology Officer, ESET said :
