LG announced on Friday to showcase its first Google TV by next week. Samsung Electronics Co and Sony Corp has already collaborated with Google for production of Internet TV.

Google TV is a hybrid of Internet and Television. Google TV is targeted to make users watch TV channels as well as online video contents and video-games conveniently. Precisely speaking, through Google TV users can browse websites, web applications and TV channels.

Google TV has Android operating system and it was first launched in October, 2010 on Sony Internet Televisions and Blue-ray players and also on Logitech Revue Companion Boxes.

The first version was a great failure and could not attract customers. Logitech incurred heavy losses and killed its Revue business.

Google TV has not received a good recognition among customers. But now, Google want to make its significant presence in TV market through its Android-based Google TV.

Last year after summer, Google has revised its Google TV application. Android 3.1 Honeycomb was brought in place of Android 2.1. More than 150 applications were available on Android market, ready to be executed on Google TV after download and installation. Google has recorded better response from customers after this move.

LG is ready to introduce its first Google TV. It is to be unveiled on next week in Las Vegas at the annual CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2012.


Google has announced on its blog about the new partners of its Google TV application. Apart from LG other new partners are chipmaker Marvell Technology Group, chip designer MediaTek and TV manufacturer Vizio.

TV manufacturers are facing cut-throat competition to survive and grow. According to surveys done by the research company DisplaySearch, expected growth is only 2% in the global TV market.
